[00:00:00] Marissa: Man. Well, I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like it has been a whirlwind the last few months, and it has been a busy, busy season for me personally. I’m really excited to share some news with you guys and also talk about how you can do a little bit of a quick tuneup for Q2. So I’m really excited what we’re gonna talk about, so stay tuned.
[00:00:29] Welcome to another episode of Focus On This, the most productive podcast on the internet, so you can banish distractions, get the right stuff done. And finally, start Loving Mondays. I’m Marissa Hyatt and I’ve got a super important message for you guys today. Now at Full Focus. We believe that in order to win at work and succeed at life, which is what we call the double win, we sometimes need to pause.
[00:00:55] To reflect, to reset, and to realign. [00:01:00] I’m feeling the need to do that in a few different areas of my life. You may feel that same sense of just needing to kind of pause. Now, this is often true for the goals that we set, the routines that we build, and even sometimes the content that we create. I wanna announce that we’re actually gonna be taking a short break from focus on this to do exactly that.
[00:01:23] We are needing to step back, take a breath, and really make sure that we’re bringing you the absolute, very best, most helpful episodes moving forward every single week. So we’re gonna be back soon. Before I lose you though, I do have something to share with you and when we return, we’re gonna have some exciting updates to share.
[00:01:44] We’ll have fresh content and it’s gonna be bigger and better than ever. Alright, so let’s talk a little bit about heading into Q2 and talk about a few simple things that you can do to really tune up for this [00:02:00] next quarter. We know we’ve got three months on the books and it’s that time. So these aren’t new.
[00:02:06] You’ve probably heard this before if you’ve been listening to focus on this for a little bit of time, but they’re super essential and such good reminders. So first of all, we wanna narrow our scope, right? We often are looking at so many different things in any given day. We’ve got so many priorities, and the biggest question that we end up asking is how.
[00:02:28] Can we get it all done? You may feel this inkling of, okay, it’s a new quarter. I’ve got all these things I wanna accomplish, where do I even start? And I wanna remind you that we don’t wanna be trying to do too many things at once because that’s gonna actually end up sabotaging our efforts. So as a reminder.
[00:02:47] At full focus, we really help you do less so you can accomplish more. So one to three goals is what you need to be focusing on per quarter. I know that may not feel like a lot, you may have 10 things you [00:03:00] wanna accomplish this quarter, but let’s just start with one to three so that we can know that our focus is actually working for us.
[00:03:08] Similarly, we wanna go with one to three objectives each week. We call this the weekly big three. This is where we take those one to three goals that we’ve got for the quarter and we ask ourselves. What can I do today to make forward progress or this week forward progress on this goal. And then lastly, one to three tasks per day.
[00:03:29] Okay? Now these are your priorities. This is where you ask yourself, if I got nothing else accomplished today, what could I do? What are the three most important tasks that I need to accomplish today? To make progress on my goals and my priorities. Okay, so it may seem basic. It may seem like, again, not enough, but it’s really easy to lose sight of this and try to accomplish more than we actually are shown that we can.
[00:03:58] So don’t let yourself [00:04:00] get distracted with the flashy and the urgent things that are popping up, but really identifying what’s important is gonna help you prioritize what matters, and then just stick to it. Now. Secondly, we want to reflect. To refocus. So what I’m really talking about here is the weekly preview.
[00:04:18] This is something that I feel so passionate about. I do, um, a session every single week where I lead our double win coaching clients through this process because it matters that much to our success. Now, the number one reason that I hear people don’t do their weekly preview is that they feel like they just don’t have the time, right?
[00:04:37] It’s just like, it’s too much time. So a couple things here. First of all, your weekly preview really does pay dividends in the way that it gives you time back each and every single week when you do it. So trust me that if you invest a little bit of time on the front end, it’s gonna set you up so much better for success, and it’s a pause that really powers your [00:05:00] progress.
[00:05:00] So I highly encourage you to do this. You can do it in as little as 15 or 20 minutes. You know, often what is a really great tip is just to set a timer. And breeze through it. Try to get through it in a short amount of time so you don’t feel like you have to block off a whole hour. I recommend doing this on either a Friday, a Sunday, or first thing Monday morning.
[00:05:21] Personally, you know, inside of Double Win Coaching, I’m leading our clients through this on Fridays and it’s perfect because it enables us to kind of shut down work for the week. Realize that we can go into the weekend without any of those Sunday or things that might make us worry about what’s coming next week.
[00:05:37] We know we’ve got a solid plan. We’re prepared for everything’s. And so on Monday morning, we show up knowing here’s what my three priorities are for the week, and I can immediately jump into action and, and not get worried about, oh my gosh, I forgot about that meeting, or, I wasn’t prepared for this thing, or I haven’t thought through my priorities, so I don’t know where to start.
[00:05:59] So [00:06:00] highly encourage you. Make sure that you’re doing your weekly preview every week. And then lastly, we want to cut ourselves some slack. High achievers are notoriously hard on themselves. You are going to misstep, you’re going to fail at something, and that’s okay. It’s not a sign of failure. It’s really a sign that you’re trying.
[00:06:21] So give yourself a little bit of slack. Value practice over perfection. We’re really trying to make progress. We wanna be showing up in practicing rather than aiming for perfection. So just keep going one day at a time.
[00:06:42] Like I mentioned, uh, I just wanted to give you a little bit for you while, uh, we’re in this transitional season and while you’re going into this next quarter. We’re gonna be back with some great new episodes soon, and until then, stay [00:07:00] focused.
